Opening a new luxury hotel property is always a time of great excitement. Opening a hotel under Covid is perhaps a bit more exciting than many had bargained for. We were able to catch up with Curtis Rystadt, owner of the Hotel Indigo Spokane, and Linsey Forni-Pullan of Pacific Inns LLC (a hotel management company) to hear their perspective. The Hotel Indigo Spokane opened after three years of extensive renovations, restoring a local landmark while gaining a listing on the National Historic Registry. Modern amenities are nestled inside the historic 1911 building – a French-inspired restaurant, 24-hour fitness center, a business center, and electric bikes all cater to travelers who want to stay in a classic historic hotel in the midst of the colorful riverside city of Spokane, Washington. Says Linsey of the experience of managing the workers, workers’ safety, and the facilities “Opening a hotel during Covid has been incredibly difficult. Our hotel participates in IHG’s Way of Clean for a commitment to rigorous cleaning procedures developed in partnership with Ecolab, a world leader in hygiene and cleaning technologies”. They have had to reconfigure protocols for each department in the hotel.
The potential for lawsuits is much higher in this environment, and hotel and hospitality businesses are learning to pivot to this new world. The team at ABI insurance has hotel liability and workers compensation specialists who are dedicated to staying current with the latest compliance and potential legal issues, partnering with you to ensure your success.
“Doing a Historic remodel can be very challenging. Along the way, we had to overcome many obstacles. The one constant was Justine— she was always there for us and made the insurance easy. We still face hurdles ahead with COVID but it is nice knowing we have a partner that can adjust quickly to help us through these tough times.”
